People’s Water Board Coalition (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is fiscally sponsored by the Michigan Environmental Council. The PWBC is committed to promoting water affordability for impacted residents and protecting water as a human right and a public trust. We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information.

2. Information We Collect

We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it to us. This includes:

a. Donation Processing

When you make a donation through our website, we collect:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Mailing address
  • Payment information (processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your credit card or banking details)
  • Donation amount and date

b. Contact and Inquiry Forms

When you submit a contact or inquiry form on our website, we collect:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Any information you voluntarily include in your message

c. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not use cookies for tracking purposes, and we do not use third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel) on this website. We do not collect sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial account numbers, or health information.


3. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To process and acknowledge your charitable donations
  • To provide donation receipts and tax acknowledgment letters as required by law
  • To respond to your inquiries or contact form submissions
  • To communicate with you about our programs, campaigns, and events, where you have provided your contact information
  • To comply with legal obligations, including nonprofit tax reporting requirements

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

Your personal information is stored on our secured website and is accessible only to authorized staff and volunteers of People’s Water Board Coalition who have a legitimate need to access it in order to carry out organizational functions.

Payment information submitted through our donation form is handled entirely by Stripe, our third-party payment processor. 5. Sharing of Your Information

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.

We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We share necessary data with Stripe solely for the purpose of processing donations.
  • Legal compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our organization, our supporters, or the public.
  • Organizational successors: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of our nonprofit operations, your information may be transferred subject to the same privacy protections described in this policy.

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including for legal and tax compliance obligations. Donation records are retained in accordance with IRS recordkeeping requirements for 501(c)(3) organizations. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently received personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us immediately.
