Join us at the State Capitol on March 22, for World Water Day!

Representatives Chang, Plawecki, and Garrett at the 2016 World Water Day

On March 22, people from all over Michigan will be joining at the State Capitol in Lansing to celebrate World Water Day.  In the morning, there will be a march led by the Michigan Nurses Association, drawing attention to the health crises created in Flint with their toxic water, as well as Detroit and Highland Park with the massive number of water shut offs over the past few years.  The Detroit Peoples Water Board Coalition will be holding a listening session at Central United Methodist Church (Across from the Capitol), where people affected in those cities will share their personal experiences.  We will also spend the day lobbying around a new Michigan Water is a Human Right Bill Package that will be introduced by Representative Stephanie Chang and colleagues in the State Legislature. A similar package was introduced last year, most of the bills never made it into committee, and died at the end of the year, so this year we will need to be more aggressive in contacting our legislatures and pushing them to move the bills forward.  To see the bills from last year, follow this link: . The day will end with a rally led by the Grand Rapids Water Protectors, with support from Food and Water Watch, Sierra Club and our indigenous brothers and sisters from around the state.

Seats are available on buses coming from Flint and Detroit.  Childcare and lunch is also provided for those riding the buses.  To reserve your seat, fill out the form below.

Water is Life, and our water is under great attack.  It is time to come together and tell our legislators to put people over profit!  Come for all or part of the day.  See you at the State Capitol!
