We believe safe, affordable and accessible water is a human right!

The People’s Water Board is a coalition of three dozen Southeast Michigan organizations (anti-poverty, social justice, environmental, conservation, faith-based) working together to protect our water from pollution, high water rates, privatization; and the denial of water and sanitation services to people unable to afford it. Founded in 2008, we work collectively with Michigan community-based groups and national coalitions to advocate for policies and programs to ensure clean and affordable water for all residents — regardless of their ability to pay.

Our goals include:

  • Place a moratorium on Detroit Water and Sewerage Dept (DWSD) water shutoffs against poor people, especially vulnerable residents like babies, children, seniors and persons with disabilities.
  • Restore service to all people whose water and sanitation service has been shutoff.
  • Implement the original Detroit Water Affordability Plan
  • Advocate for water affordability vs assistance across all municipalities and at the national level.

The People’s Water Board coalition holds general meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the Cass Corridor Commons at 4605 Cass Ave. at 5:30pm (enter off of Forest St). For additional information please contact info@peopleswaterboard.org

We are an all-volunteer coalition whose advocacy, educational outreach and actions are supported by private donations and small grants. Thank you for visiting our website!
